Der Balkon

We were never allowed to step outside on the balkony. From the foyer we would have to look up to see it, across a small courtyard between the Arnold Schönbergzaal, the foyer and three larger studios. We’d look up into a large tree, see a tiny bit of sky and the balkony. But the glas doors leading up to it were  always locked. The fact that she unlocked the door seemed like magic. For the first time in 30 years I stepped outside.

The noise was overwhelming. Noise from the highway right behind the building, and noise from the big blue buzzing ventilation system at the back of the balkony. A sign on the blue box read:

luchtbehandelingskast
tbv Sonologie
lokatie A

It was pure bliss to finally get a chance to sit here and listen to the location and to Mariette throwing with roof pebbles.
